Why We Think What We Think About UFO’s

I have been thinking a lot lately about the stereotypes if you will, or preconceptions we have about UFO’s.

Like the wide presumption that UFO’s are saucer shaped.

It was June 19, 1947 when Kenneth Arnold, a businessman flying near Yakima, Washington, reported seeing a group of strange, unidentified flying objects from the window of his airplane, and June 26, 1947 when he described those objects to the Chicago Daily Tribune as “saucer-like” and “shaped like a pie plate.” Those descriptions soon gave rise to the term “flying saucer,” to nationwide talk of the possibility of extraterrestrial visitors, and to a country primed and ready to interpret any fiery aerial phenomena as signs of otherworldly visitation.

I know that there were mass sitings of UFO’s in the 30s and 40s, all sorts of phenomena described in all sorts of different ways, and our need to explain every thing we don’t understand, making understandable to us, obviously using terminology and imagery that might not necessarily be connected to the phenomena at hand.

For example - The Green Fire balls that were seen over New Mexico

he first known accounts of airborne fireballs over New Mexico come from various old-time Spanish villages, and don’t generally describe the phenomena as being green. They do, however, agree that these fireballs were the transportation of witches. According to Jack Kutz’s 1988 Mysteries and Miracles of New Mexico, all a witch had to do was pick up an egg, a gourd, or a pumpkin, and she could “pop like a flashbulb and streak off in a fireball.”

Obviously these villages were deeply immersed in catholasism and Indian lore and this resulted in an explanation that they could deal with, or get their head around.

With us, the explanations are more technologically inclined (I am not claiming that there are no UFO’s only that that is the easiest way for us to explain away things we see and aren’t sure what they are).

My Strange New Mexico has a really interesting post on this issue, that is chockablock full of really interesting tidbits.

I think it is evident, for me at least, that when I see something that looks like a “natural phenomenon”, it probably is. I once rented a stone house up on a high mountain in Tuscany in Italy. There was a lot of thunder and lightning even though it was summer. My girlfriend and I were just standing in the kitchen watching it all. Suddenly, a small ball of lightning stopped in front of the kitchen window as if to look inside and with the sound of a champaign cork popping just disappeared. Even though this natural phenomenon seemed to have a mind of it’s own I knew it was natural. I had read about “ball lightning” before and now I had really seen it. It was a totally different feeling as seeing other phenomenon that I knew were created by intelligences other than the intelligence of nature. I have been lucky enough to have seen such things. But on the other hand, I think a lot of people have seen such things but have never given them any thought.

As I was reading your comment I was just thinking how lucky you are to see all of these things…. maybe I am just not attentive enough
  • hammer responded:
I would say I am lucky, but I believe one creates his or her own luck whether it be good or bad. I prescribe to the notion that a person attracts that what they think about most. That applies to positive as well as negative thoughts be they conscious or subconscious. I also think that a lot of people have let things like television numb their senses.
  • Marilyn responded:
I agree both to the law of attraction and the television numbing our minds and sences
  • Roel responded:
We all agree. We’re just not aware of it and how many of us are. :)

just go to your source. Take the time to go to your source. Go into a meditative state and visualise the sky, or whatever makes you feel good. Then visualise a good entety that will lead you to a wnderful place. Talk to those you see there. Ask them what they have to say to you. Take it from there. turn off the TV. Hammer

I am only a man who came to Berln from San Francisco 20 years ago. I am here to tell you what I have learned. I have learend a lot. I love you all. Humanity is my family. Let’s stay in touch. Your friend, Kevin

Imagination runs wild in my head. I can meditate but the boundries between what’s real and what’s not is difficult. And I tend to analyze too much while I’m “experiencing” “anything”. When I try to empty my head I keep hearing that I have to empty my head. Over and over. Meditating is hard when your thoughts run almost 24/7. I might not be able to pull off that what you suggest. I love humanity too. We’re all in this together. Peace.

Dear Roel, I understand your problem. I was almost finished guiding you through a technique that I’ve used with great success but I got cut off from my cheap-ass internet provider. I’ll try to make it simple and save time. You deffinately have a good imagination otherwise you wouldn’t be on this site. Too bad you didn’t get my guided tour of how to get to a place that could really help you, but I’ll condense it and you can fill in the blanks. Anyway, I tried to take you through a visualisation that I have used, among others, to contact the other side. The most important thing is that you have to lie on your bed and close your eyes and relax. That is the most important thing. Don’t fall asleep, just relax. I visualise a forest grove where I walk along a path with beautiful flowers and mushrooms along the path. It’s like a fantasy. I walk along this path until I come to a sunny meadow filled with tall grass and more wild flowers with bees buzzing and sweet smells. In the distance I come to another forest at the end of the path. It’s even more peaceful than the last. As I walk through the forest I see a beautiful castle on a hill at the end of the path. As I leave the forest I come to the castle and walk over the bridge over the moat. I go inside the castle and I walk on down the hall to a big oak door. I Knock on the door and an old man’s voice say,”come in”. I open the door and there sits a man with long white hair like Gandalf from the Lord Of the Rings. He is there to answer any questions I have. He is my confidant, my teacher, my friend. I will tell you, with such a friend you cannot fail. You might go through hard times, but you will never fail as long as you take the advice from this person. That is just my imagination. You pick out your own. I just gave you my personal guide. You have to find your own. Good luck. I can tell you it works. You just have to put it to work and it works if you work it.

Dear Roel, I hear your problem. It is hard not to think of anything. I had the same problem for years. I’ll tell you what I did. I focused my thoughts on a peaceful scene. You can’t just turn off your brain from thinking unless you’re a tibetan monk who’s spent his whole life training himself to think of nothing. That is what they call Nirvana. But I’ll tell you what I did. You won’t get any first hand knowledge from anyone like the type I’m going to give you now. It works for me and maybe it will work for you. If you weren’t able to imagine you wouldn’t be looking at this site. Ok, lie down on your bed. Close your eyes and relax yourself. You don’t have to go from your toes to your head relaxing every muscle along the way, only if it helps you. I find it a pain in the ass. Just do what you have to do to relax. Relaxation is the most important part so that your brain can go to the alpha brain wave level. Imagine that you are walking through a calm, warm, forest with lush green ferns and flowers as well as mushrooms. You are walking along a path that leads you to a green grass meadow filled with wildflowers. The sun is shining as you walk on the path that guides you through the meadow to the next forest. The sun is shining and bees are buzzing. You then enter the shade from the trees in the next forest. You follow the path through an identical forest as the one before but this time it smells sweet and earthy. The colours of the trees, ferns, and flowers are even more intense. As you follow the path that leads you to the edge of the forest you see on the bright, sunny hillside, a wonderful castle. You are amazed by it’s beauty. You walk up the path into the warm sunlight and approach the castle. Around the castle is a moat with a bridge that is lowered for you. You walk over the bridge into the castle and are welcomed by a beautiful maiden. She takes you inside the castle and leads you down a long hallway to a huge oak door. She opens the door and you sit down in a big leather chair. An old man who resembles Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings comes in and gives you his hand. He tells you to ask him any questions you have and he will give you an answer. You can be absolutely sure that the answers you recieve are true and correct. I’m sure if you practice this method your mind will stop racing and you will be able to think again.

I have an experiment for you Roel. Give me a time and day when you are at home and have nothing to do. Tell me your time zone ie. eastern ,central, mountain, pacific. I will try to contact you telepathically from my time zone here in Berlin, Germany. I will try to tell you what you look like and answer a question you have about me. It’s just an honest experiment. We don’t have to be correct but it would be interesting to see if we’re connected. What do you say? regards, Hammer
  • Roel responded:
Thank you Kevin. I will be testing out your idea of how to get into a more relaxing meditation. I will try to make it my own within my own personal views and imaginative ideas. I welcome your experiment and you’re welcome to try. Timezone = GMT+1 (Netherlands, the) Commence your test on thursday @ 12:00 hours. I can be contacted at roelprv@gmail.com with your results. I wish you luck and love on your days. Roel
