That's a really good question and one everyone should think about given that NASA seems to be funded by their privately owned parent company Lockheed Martin, which would give NASA access to vast resources beyond federal funds.

This is a question everyone should ponder given that in addition to conflict of interest there appears to be fraud with the evidence of the Mars image tampering. It would be a devastation to the eroded public's confidence to add corruption or conspiracy to the list of growing public concerns about the integrity of NASA.

A simple release of the raw Mars photographic data would definitely improve their current public relations dilemma.

Even if they did there would still be conspiracy nuts who will claimed that it was tampered with somehow. If there really were evidence of life on another planet then NASA would have all the money they need for an immediate manned mission to Mars. Releasing raw data cuts out those researchers who have worked long and hard on that data. Why would you do that to them?

Can you answer the question?

Even if the evidence suggested that earth religions were wrong? Would it not be irresponsible for any govt to immediately bring out such proof without the so-operation and ground work from the rest of the world? It's a better use of resources and controls for corruption and error, in fact it's more scientific to have the data reviewed by as many as possible. The simplest explanation is that it is done for exactly the reason I have given above. Can you blame them?

It is absolutely unforgiveable in my mind, for NASA to keep this information from the general public.

I will even go so far as to say, that it will be a rainy day in heaven, before I ever help an astronaught out of a jam again.

Last time I looked NASA was not a religious organization. And what you suggest is wild speculation. Did you know that the Brookings Institute report from the early 60's that most conspiracy nuts like to trout out was revised a few decades later with a different conclusion? Perhaps a couple of religious fanatics will go nuts but the VAST majority of the world would be excited to learn this.
