MARILYN LIFE IN METHANE?

Marilyn: You are not misunderstanding it. Astronomers have been saying ever since we landed a Spacecraft on Saturn’s Moon Titan, that it may be possibly for life to form without water. There are many lakes and rivers of liquid Ethane and Methane on the surface. There was recently a storm pictured around the south pole and as it left, there were lakes that got filled up. They are seriously contemplating, life without water. I think that if life started in either Methane or Water, it would require some heat. That could be found under the surface, there water or methane would be liquid. But at some levels, it would be warm enough for life to start in water. Yes, there are Organic chemicals on Titan, but I haven’t heard any scientists claim they see an actual way life could exist under those harsh conditions. But, it’s still an open question.

Strange you should mention that. I just watched a really really interesting program on Nat Geo a couple of days ago, about that very thing, and how our understanding of what life is and what is needed for it to occur is broadening. I forget the name of the program, but in general it was speaking about the possibility of other life in the universe, its feasibility and the chances of contact, and what kind of contact it would be, or wouldn’t be.
    I found it riveting.
