It was a 'to-whom-it-may-concern' message...more an expression of hope and our willingness to take part in watever cosmic community there might be. I never really understood, though, why they sent it to a globular cluster that is...what?...50K LY away? Globular clusters are believed to have relatively low probability of life-bearing systems. Maybe it is on a line along the galactic plane that will intersect lots of good candidate regions on the way. I haven't checked a star atlas to see what nearby stars it will be passing. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
